Welcome to the Safe, Caring and Restorative School Page
The links under Safe Schools on the left will lead you to the Code of Conduct and School Rules for Highland Heights P.S.
We believe children learn best in a safe and caring enviornment. We believe all members of our school community have rights and responsibilites to ensure everyone can learn and teach.
If each child has a right to learn in a safe and caring classroom, then each child has a responsibilty to behave in a safe and caring manner in the classroom and outside of the classroom.
School staff and parents must work together to teach the children how to behave safely and in a caring manner.
The rules are the same for everyone. The consequences differ depending on the age, stage and need of the child. Consequences are positive and negative, are logcial and based on the need of the child.
We use a restorative approach to build community, strengthen relationships and repair harm where there is conflict or tension.
Restorative means ‘making things new again’
What do you need to do to ‘restore’ your relationship if you hurt somebody or make that person feel sad?
To be ‘restorative’ you need to:
say sorry
change your behaviour and not do it again
and make things right by talking about it so you can still be friends.
Use these Restorative Questions When Things Go Wrong.
What happened?
What were you thinking at the time?
What have you thought about since?
Who has been affected by what you did?
In what way?
What do you think you need to do to make things right?
Use these Restorative Questions for those who have been harmed by someone else's actions.
What did you think when you realised what had happened?
What impact has this incident had on you and others?
What has been the hardest thing for you?
What do you think needs to happen to make things right?
FIRM and FAIR Framework
